Our first decision since setting up here in Ireland in 2008 was to commit to crafting chocolate using only 100% certified Fairtrade Organic couverture. Organic Fairtrade chocolates offers the opportunity to enjoy your favorite treat at a new level: ethically delicious and easy on the conscience. Crafting with Fairtrade cocoa and sugar, bought directly from farmers in the South at common market prices we have decided we’d rather take a cut on our own profits rather than contribute to an unbalanced and unjust system.
Fairtrade farmers receive a supplementary premium for their crops, allowing them to grow a sustainable business, investing equipment and so on, and we think that’s good business.
Next, in 2010, we made the somewhat painstakingly difficult switch to buying only 100% bio-degradable, low-carbon and sustainably manufactured packaging. Our bars are now all wrapped in bio-degradable, sustainably grown, plant based clear film & all boxes are made fully biodegradable and recyclable made with 90% post-consumer recycled card.
